Dear Trick or Treat Creator

It's the spookiest time of the year! Some of my fandom requests are longer or more detailed than others, but I promise I'm equally excited to receive all of them. Whatever you choose to create, be it fucked up and terrifying or subtly spooky or darkly sweet, I'm sure I'll enjoy it!

I mostly requested single characters, and I'm open to any & or / ship involving those characters (including poly ships and character/OC), as well as a requested character alone. Shipping requested characters with each other is great, but not required! I'm happy with anything from explicit smut to ambiguously shippy close friendship to fully platonic gen to solo characters. Canonical partners can be dealt with however works best for the character/ship and the story--not mentioning them at all, AUs where the canon ship aren't together, happily open relationships, infidelity, I'm not picky.

I requested Art, Fic, and Trick for everything, and additionally requested Treat for a couple fandoms. For tricks, I love extremely dark, violent, or disturbing content, but I also love gently spooky, atmospheric works about autumn or Halloween or generally dark, chilly, spooky, or sad things. For treats, I love a lightly spooky/autumnal vibe as well, or something funny, cozy, or smutty. I like a touch of darkness even in my treats, but don't stress about not making it dark enough.

My previous exchange requests on the AO3 App have more details on my horror, gore, smut, and kink likes, if you want more specifics on those.

Trick Likes
Spooky atmospheric locations, dark takes on folklore/myths/fairy tales, gore and violence, romantic or intimate takes on cannibalism/murder/violence/necrophilia, anything dark or scary or gross or tragic involving dead bodies, noncon/dubcon, unsafe/unhealthy sex or kink practice, bad or bittersweet endings, major character death, dark supernatural creature/monster AUs (werewolves, witches, vampires, selkies, pookas, demons, ghosts, etc), nightmares/visions/prophetic dreams, unreliable narrators

Treat Likes
Cozy autumn nights, Halloween celebrations (parties, costumes, movie screenings, trick or treating), horror comedy, affectionate banter between characters, sensory comforts like food porn/hot baths/warm blankets, hurt/comfort or whump, a fun and crazy night, lighter supernatural creature/monster AUs, forced physical intimacy with someone you're attracted to, first times, domestic cohabitation

Art Likes
Interesting color palates (bold colors, greyscale, high contrast, very limited or unconventional color palates), pastiches of classical art, pastiches of movie posters, tarot inspired art, art of the character in a specific AU (as a supernatural creature, in historical dress, with costumes/props from another fandom), art of the character in a fancy outfit, touching/physical intimacy between characters, nonpenetrative sex, bondage, kneeling, hand or forehead kissing, art more focused on setting/location or mood/vibe than characters

My fic likes are pretty well covered in my Trick/Treat sections, but I want to specifically opt into 2nd and 1st person POV and unusual formats or stylistic choices.

General DNWs
Unrequested parent/child incest (including foster/adopted parents)
Terminal illness or dementia in canons without these
Characters in a / ship being asexual, aromantic, or having incompatible orientations (exception for canonically gay characters in mixed gender polycules, and for victims of noncon not being attracted to their aggressor)
The following AUs: in space, omegaverse (BDSMverse is great though!), dystopian/post-apocalypse (including zombie apocalypse), mundane modern AU of historical canons, high school AU of adult characters

Smut-Only DNWs
Underage under 12
Sounding
Cervical Penetration
Heavy focus on kink safety practices (it's fine for characters to e.g. have a safeword if that fits their setting and personalities, but don't make it a major focus of the sex scene)

Art-Only DNWs
Syringes, IVs, acupuncture needles (exception for Re-Animator: you can show the big glowing green syringe, it's iconic, but don't show it actively going into somebody)
Corset piercings
Feces
Sex or nudity of visibly prepubescent characters
Spiders (other bugs OK)

Honey, Narrator

Happy tenth birthday to both Trick or Treat and everybody's favorite Catholic-sexual-repression-and-bog-mummies album! I've always seen the narrator in this song as a bog mummy, but there are plenty of other dead/undead/cursed/supernatural beings who could be buried underground and dug up by a frantic modern person trying to hide something. I love the tenderness between the narrator and Honey, and am fine with shipping them or something more ambiguous.

John Hartnell, John Torrington, William Braine

DNW note: my DNW "Terminal illness or dementia in canons without these" does not apply to this fandom, as all three men died of tuberculosis and pneumonia and were likely suffering cognitive decline from lead poisoning. Consider this DNW waived.

I fell in (horrified) love with these icy mummy dudes when I was a child, and I'd love to see more of them! Ghosts, mummies, something about their exhumations in the 1980s, something about their short lives on the ships or back in England. Feel free to weave them into The Terror and include characters from the show (like John Hartnell's brother Tom Hartnell), but knowledge of the show is absolutely not necessary! I included some links and reference details below if those are helpful, but I'm honestly thrilled to get anything about these truly cold boys.

Mini Mummy Primer

John Torrington (20, Leading Stoker on Terror), John Hartnell (25, Able Seaman on Erebus), and William Braine (32, Royal Marine Private on Erebus) were the first three deaths of the ill-fated Franklin Expedition. All three men died of illness in the first half of 1846 and were buried on Beechey Island, where the expedition was wintering over. All 129 men of the expedition would die over the next few years under mysterious circumstances, and these first three burials are the only that have been found with headstones or any other conclusive identifying markers.

In the 1980s, forensic anthropologist Owen Beattie led a research team that exhumed the three Beechey Island graves for study. Due to the permafrost, all three 140-year-old bodies were extremely well preserved and still had facial hair, fingernails, internal organs, and flexible soft tissue. Lab analysis of tissue samples from the mummies confirmed elevated lead levels, which became one of the leading modern theories for the disastrous end of the expedition. Archive.org has an upload of the 1988 Nova episode Buried in Ice, which covers Beattie and his team exhuming and studying the remains of Hartnell and Braine.

Assorted other things:

-John Torrington was the first body exhumed, and photos of his unbelievably well preserved face and body caused a bit of a media stir. James Taylor and Iron Maiden wrote songs about him, Margaret Atwood wrote a short story, and Sheenagh Pugh wrote the poem Envying Owen Beattie, which is one of my favorite pieces of Franklin-related art.

-A descendent of John Hartnell was the photographer at his second exhumation, and he said in an interview that as soon as the ice melted to reveal Hartnell's face, he could see a striking resemblance to his own grandmother.

-In the Nova documentary, the clothing expert discovers a set of letters embroidered on John Hartnell's shirt, and identifies them as "T.E. 1844" and probably the initials of the seamstress who made the shirt. It's not mentioned in the episode, but later inspection revealed the initials as T.H., and the shirt as likely belonging to John's brother Thomas Hartnell, who was also on the expedition.

Re-Animator (Movies - Combs)
Trick - Art, Trick - Fic
Ship: Daniel Cain/Herbert West

DNW note: I waived my DNW for syringes in art for this fandom, just don't have the needles actually going into somebody.

I love the wacky, gory, gross tone of these movies, and I love these freaky little codependent mad scientists cohabitating and chopping up bodies in the basement. I love Herbert in all his fussy weirdness and complete dedication to scientific progress (and his own ego), and I love how Dan is also an enormous freak but hides it under good looks and preppy college sweatshirts. Love them being a team, being a domestic odd couple, being ride or die for each other in mortal peril, or getting into gruesome mad science shenanigans. I forgot to nominate Dan & Herbert, but I'm okay with either gen or something ambiguous between gen and ship. For art, I love the vibrant colors and gory visuals of the movie, and how touchy Dan and Herbert are with each other.

I love the Lovecraftian New England collegiate vibes, and would love something set in Arkham during Halloween - neighborhood kids trick or treating at the mortuary house, Miskatonic undergrads throwing drunk Halloween parties, troublemaking kids getting in the middle of undead shenanigans and Dan and Herbert having to get them out. Halloween could be good for art prompts - art of the house all decorated, trick or treaters knocking at the door, Dan and Herbert getting dragged to a party at the hospital or the college, spooky atmospheric art of Arkham in fall.

The Terror (TV 2018)
Trick - Art, Trick - Fic
Cornelius Hickey, Harry D.S. Goodsir, Silna, Solomon Tozer, Thomas Blanky, Thomas Jopson, William Gibson

DNW note: my DNW "Terminal illness or dementia in canons without these" does not apply to this fandom, as it's chock full of terminal illness and cognitive decline. Consider this DNW waived.

I love this show and its spooky, haunting, existentially dreadful darkness. I picked a bunch of my favorite characters (mostly mutineers), but I'm open to pretty much any ship/friend group/solo character combo. I love different sole survivor(s) AUs, atmospheric Arctic horror, spooky supernatural stories about the Tuunbaq or other creatures, the psychology of desperation and failing health that leads men to acts like mutiny and cannibalism. Very into fucked up D/s vibes or outright dubcon/noncon, gun kink, erotic cannibalism, go nuts!

Ryan Bergara, Shane Madej

I love these dudes and their excellent banter, and have been watching them hunt ghosts and give each other shit for almost a decade. Spooky ghost hunting is an obvious choice - I love how terrified Ryan gets and how hilarious Shane finds it (but how he knows when to offer comfort). I ship them, but I'm totally fine with them being bros or one of them having a spooky adventure alone. I enjoy 19th century spiritualism AUs (any historical ghost/paranormal AU would be fun), serial killer AUs, AUs where one of the boys is a demon/cryptid/ghost or brings one home. For art, I really liked the Buzzfeed Unsolved promo photos they took spoofing horror movie covers.
