Exactly ten years ago, on December first 2013, I created both this journal and the associated AO3 account. Have some slightly overshare-y fun facts.

-I created my AO3 account on my phone in the breakroom at my college retail job.

-Two albums are inextricably tied to December 2013 in my mind: AM by Arctic Monkeys, and Save Rock and Roll by Fall Out Boy. I own both on vinyl.

-The first work on my AO3 account is a BDSM fic I wrote for the Amazing Spider-Man kink meme in 2012. I wrote it to cope with an awkward college breakup, and to cope with my confusing feelings about BDSM.

-One of the main reasons I created this account was to give myself space from a very messy, difficult personal relationship. This person is still in my life, and our relationship is much easier and healthier now, which gives me a lot of complicated feelings I won't get into.

-My username comes from a banger of a Thin Lizzy song. My fandom email account is darkrosaleen33 after two of my favorite Boston sports captains, Zdeno Chara and Jason Varitek, who both wore number 33.

-Currently, there are 98 works posted to my ao3 account. I've decided to post a late Trick or Treat gift in a beloved fandom (with a thematic similarity to my first ToT work in 2014) for work 99, and a Raven Cycle fic for work 100. I just reread the entire series and am two thirds of the way through the sequel trilogy, so the timing feels right (I will write my thoughts on The Raven King and the Dreamer Trilogy in a future post).

Some data analysis:

-"Most comment threads" and "most bookmarks" are both fandoms/ships that were extremely hot when I posted works for them.

-My highest hits, kudos, and comments consistently go to explicit het and explicit underage M/M incest. I noticed this trend in my 2021 fandom wrap-up, and the M/M underage incest I wrote in 2021 is #4 in both hits and kudos. I've written quite a lot of M/M underage smut, and none of it comes close to the stats of my brocest.

-"We Were Born to Die" has brutally crushed my stats since I published it in 2014, and I still don't understand why. The Hunger Games series was popular in 2014, but not any more popular than Hockey RPF or Raven Cycle or any other big fandom I wrote for in its heyday. And Katniss/Haymitch wasn't a juggernaut ship at any point in the fandom's popularity. My theory is that I wrote this fic for porn battle, which had enough of a built-in audience to dominate my stats for nine years.

Predictably, I would love to hear your Oasis thoughts! :D

Have you seen The Company of Wolves, the 1984 dark fantasy movie? It stars a Rosaleen, and I thought of you! I wondered if that's where your name came from, but I see it came from another source altogether.

I wrote things for Porn Battle and got like no traffic at all from them, lol, so I don't know that that explains your Katniss/Haymitch stats. I wonder if they're one of those ships with not a lot of fic but a lot of readers? Sometimes that's all it takes. I know there's another fic for the ship that's like, hugely popular and always getting recced.

Oasis is a band I've loved for decades, and a really fun, enthusiastic little RPF fandom :) I have a soft spot for rock band RPF (and incest). Oasis >>>> Blur.

I haven't seen Company of Wolves! Dark Rosaleen is a less common/outdated translation of the Irish folk song Roisin Dubh, which is more frequently translated as Black Rose. I picked this version partly because it was less popular as an internet username, lol.

Interesting that there's another highly recced Haymitch/Katniss fic! My only other theory is the older man/younger woman daddy kink vibes, but that doesn't explain why Haymitch/Katniss is a relatively unpopular ship in the fandom.

I dabbled in all the Britpop bands once I got into Oasis, and Blur just did nothing for me. I liked Pulp okay and have always meant to go back and get to know their stuff better.

I think of myself as a latecomer! I'm too young to have followed Oasis in their prime, but I bought What's The Story Morning Glory in 2004 and got really into them. Blur is a good band and I like some of their stuff, but IMO Oasis is one of the best bands of the nineties, and Blur is nowhere near that level.

Thanks! Hockey is a very stressful RPF fandom for a bunch of reasons, but I still think it's one of the most fun fandoms I've been in. The rare ship/team/player corners were especially welcoming, and I met a ton of great people :) I moved on mostly because the fandom was migrating to teams and players that I wasn't invested in, and I didn't have the time or attention span to keep up to date.

I hear you on that - I'm still trucking along with my own faves, but with the constantly expanding cast, there's so much that I don't have the energy to keep up with and just have to let pass by. Still fun though!

It's interesting to me that HRPF migrates to a completely new team and characters/ships when old juggernauts retire, but current bandom is still mostly writing about Warped Tour 2005. It's definitely harder to follow if you're like me and only follow your home team and their division.
